The Boathouse Owner/Operator is Greg Hammer. Hammer spent a majority of his life, nearly 50 years, in San Antonio, and after working in Animal Care at Sea World through his 20s, he worked for various local, state, and federal agencies as a bureaucrat in one form or another for the next 24 years. Bureaucracy eventually took its toll on his soul, and he sought something more for the remainder of his career.
After camping at The Boathouse campground each February for several years in a row during the Chihuahuan Desert BIke Fest, he gained an understanding of what a special location it is. It is, after all, The Center of the Universe. In 2022, Hammer decided to purchase the bar & bungalows, situated on 4.3 acres, in hopes of facilitating others' adventures by providing a launching point and meeting place to swap stories over a cold beer when the adventures are complete.
